Backstage With Becca B. Ep. 32 with Kalyn West

On this episode I talked with Kalyn about when she first knew she wanted to perform on stage, why she chose to get double bachelors degrees in musical theatre and anthropology, her favorite show she got to participate in besides The Prom, her audition experience for The Prom, getting the chance to represent and be an inspiration for up and coming actresses like her younger self, the importance of not being afraid to address mental health, and much more.

Kalyn West (she/they)

Kalyn was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, alongside two younger sisters and a powerhouse mother. She earned double bachelors degrees in Musical Theatre & Anthropology from Weber State University. After graduating in 2013, she moved to New York City and never looked back. Connections brought her to the fierce Talent House family in 2014, and she’s been working regionally/locally ever since. Some of her most beloved work has been on new projects - originating roles & helping to build pieces from the ground up, i.e. The Prom.

“I love telling stories that deepen our compassion and empathy for one another; stories that inspire us to step outside ourselves and recognize our shared humanity. I believe that theatre has a tremendous power to heal, to connect, to change hearts and minds. I believe that we can understand ourselves better when we aim to understand others.”

When she’s not on stage, she’s usually on a yoga mat or in the gym, immersed in a good podcast, or simply enjoying a really good homemade cup of coffee. Gummy bears are a fav. Cat person all the way. Preferred food - Mexican. Virgo. Intuitive poet. Gryffindor. Sunflower.
