Backstage With Becca B. Ep. 59 with Cailen Fu

On this episode I talked with Cailen about the moment she realized she wanted to be a theatre performer, how growing up in Fresno and going to school where Audra McDonald went to school made her realize that if Audra grew up where she did and made it then she could too, why she chose to study theatre at UC Irvine and continue with their program, the most valuable lesson she learned in college, her audition process for Mean Girls, how she puts herself into the shoes of Gretchen and Regina (two characters who are incredibly different) and plays them both so well, what her Broadway debut was like, how she works on self confidence in such a tough industry, teaching masterclasses and coaching up and coming performers, and MUCH MORE!

Cailen Fu (she/her)

Cailen was born + raised in the sunny state of California. She grew up running around in the mountains, baking, and singing on the top of her lungs everywhere she went. She has been performing since a very young age and went on to receive her BFA in Musical Theater + Honors in Acting from the University of California, Irvine. In addition she studied across the pond at RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art), Shakespeare's Globe and ArtsEd. Cailen grew up reading and studying Shakespeare at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, so most of her training and skills are centered around a classical background. Now, Cailen is an actor, singer and voiceover artist currently residing in New York. She's signed across-the-board with A3 Artists Agency and Lakey Wolff & Co. She made her Broadway debut in Mean Girls as the standby for Regina George + Gretchen Wieners. In joining the company, she became the first Asian-American Regina George. She has worked on numerous voiceover projects ranging from national Subway commercials to Animated Feature Films. During the pandemic she became a Masterclass and Vocal Coach for many aspiring young artists and continues to do so when she is available. She is extremely passionate about working with the future generations to help build our world and industry to be a better place.
