Backstage With Becca B. Ep. 82 with Ali Ewoldt

On this episode I talked with Ali about when she knew she wanted to have a career in theatre, why she fell in with theatre when she saw her first theatre show ‘A Chorus Line’ live as an audience member, why she decided to go to Yale University and study psychology instead of auditioning for a musical theatre program, how studying psychology helped her better understand the characters she’s played in different shows over the years since, her experience working at Disneyland, her Broadway debut as Cosette in Les Miserables and her previous experience on the Les Miserables National Tour, playing Maria in West Side Story on an International Tour, the different countries she had the opportunity to explore while on tour with West Side Story, her journey auditioning for Christine in Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway, how she makes iconic characters she’s played on stage like Cosette, Maria, Tuptim, and Christine her own, how she works on vocal control and vocal stamina, her current theatre bucket list, how she’s stayed busy over the past year, and MUCH MORE!

Ali Ewoldt (she/her)

Born outside Chicago and raised 45 minutes north of New York City in the small town of Pleasantville, Ali has loved performing for as long as she can remember. She made her Broadway debut as Cosette in the 1st Broadway Revival of Les Miserables and is currently starring as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.

Ali has starred as Maria in the 1st National Tour of West Side Story directed by Arthur Laurents and David Saint and played Luisa in the The Fantasticks Off-Broadway, the world’s longest running musical. She has been featured on The Michael J. Fox Show, the short film Yield and DRAMA: The Webseries and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Town Hall, and across the country and world!

Ali also has a BA in Psychology from Yale University, which has proved surprisingly relevant to her career.
