Backstage With Becca B. Ep. 85 with Hayley Podschun

On this episode I talked with Hayley about when her interest in theatre began, what it was like making her Broadway debut at age 12 when she was cast as a standby for both Louisa and Brigitta in Sound Of Music, finding out what a standby was and what the pressure for a child is like when covering not one, but two roles in a show, being involved with just about everything Hairspray from the National Tour, to Broadway, to the movie, understudying Penny and Amber in Hairspray and making those two very different characters her own, learning the choreography for Hairspray and keeping up her stamina whilst dancing on stage eight times a week, performing on stage vs. performing in front of a camera, getting to cross her dream role of Glinda in Wicked off her bucket list, how she made her version of Glinda was unique, taking on hosting and interviewing some of her friends and former castmates on carpets, her love for @synthialink’s workouts, and much more!

Hayley has been on Broadway since she was 12 years old when she was cast as the standby for Louisa and Brigitta in The Sound Of Music! Only a short time later, she began her long association with the musical Hairspray. Starting with the First National Tour, playing Penny Pingleton and Tammy, followed by New Line Cinema’s 2007 film, the Broadway company (both playing Tammy) and finally finished it off at Sacramento Music Circus; once again, playing Penny.

Hayley also has been dancing since the age of five, immersing herself in jazz, tap, ballet, partnering, and competitive dance. In 2007, Hayley was Dance Spirit Magazines #1 choice to be their cover girl for the Broadway Issue. Her dance captain work, in Sunday in the Park with George, was highly noticed by the shows choreographer, Christopher Gattelli, that he offered her as assisting position for the musical 13. She has since helped Chris on a few other projects.

You may also know Hayley as the bubbly and popular Glinda in Wicked on the National Tour. Hayley has also been seen on Broadway in Hello, Dolly!, Something Rotten, Chaplin, Anything Goes, and Pal Joey.
